Maxbrücke

Maxbrücke

Max Bridge

The Max Bridge is the oldest solid stone bridge over the Pegnitz.
Address: 90403 Nürnberg

It is the oldest stone bridge in Nuremberg.

Formerly also called the Stone Bridge. In 1810 it was renamed in honour of the Bavarian King Maximilian Joseph I. The bridge goes across the river Pegnitz and connects Maxplatz and Unschlittplatz and was completed by the builder Jakob Grimm from Rothenburg in 1457. In the middle of the bridge there are two round cannons. They were built to prevent the flow of the river. Due to a fire in the wooden water tower Nägeleinsmühle west of the bridge, Max Bridge was also reconstructed according to plans of Bernhard Solger and in 1852 it was put back into operation.
